measure out about a inch of synthetic 100%Kanekalon (A.K.A KK) jumbo braid hair. the more hair you use the thicker your dread will be. be aware that you will be matching the ends in the next step so dont take allot of hair!
wrap the middle of you hair around the hook of a coat hanger. match the ends and secure the top of the hair with a rubber band. (small rubber bands for braids are best)
start backcombing the hair with a small bristle comb. a pet comb works best! backcomb until the hair can stand up straight on its own. make sure the dread is smooth with no lumps! your dread will be stiff but smooth
twist the dread tight. i usually go clockwise. work in smaller sections to ensure you are sealing the whole dread. dont let the dread untwist
place a wet washcloth over the dread without letting the dread untwist and spray it down with more water. (steam is what seals the dread)
take your hair straightner and clamp it around your dread. take your time and heat all sides of the dread. i usually hold it on for about 10- 15 seconds (very important to take your time) get the end of your dread and twist it tight and hold the end with a pair of pliars. soak it with water and apply the straightner directally on the hair just for a few seconds to seal the end without burning
after the dread has cooled off trim any flyways if you wish to give your dreads a smother look!
Now you can either braid them into your hair or attach them to elastic and turn them into falls!!(elastic can be found at any craft store. usually around the sewing section!)
