Willow Smith has what it takes to be a star, just like her parents, Will and Jada Smith, and her brother, Jaden Smith. But this Smith, at the tender age of 9, is quickly becoming a pop superstar and preteen trendsetter, thanks to her music video "Whip My Hair".
The music video features Willow singing and dancing with a trendy, youthful wardrobe and some whacky hairstyles, like her "Heart Hawk", "Rainbow Faux-Hawk" and "Cotton Candy Dream".
Willow Smith claims that her song "Whip My Hair" is an anthem for young girls to just be themselves. The background dancers in the video are called "Warriorettes", signifying that young girls should fight for the right to be their true selves.
If you've been whipping your hair to Willow's song all week, Stylist claims that:
Now you have even more of a reason to whip your hair to the incredibly catchy, Rihanna-esque dance hit as celebrity hairstylist Marcia Hamilton dishes her styling secrets to Willow's paint-spewing strands, faux mohawk, and curly pompadour.
Hamilton, who's maintained the manes of stars like Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, Minnie Driver, John Legend, Venus and Serena Williams, and Willow's mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, unleashed her artistic edge to have the tween pop star's coif "transform into the main focus of the video."
With Willow's ultra-long braids (which Hamilton applied White Sands Orchids Oil for added shine) dipped in bright neon shades of orange, blue and green, her hair became her "very own brush to add color and zest."
To create the "Heart Hawk," Hamilton wrapped the braids around a pre-made heart-shaped wire and secured it with lots of glue. She set the style with IT&LY HAIRFASHION'S Purity Design Pure Definition Hairspray.
For the rainbow faux-hawk, the celeb hairstylist clipped in hair extensions with bright colors using IT&LY's Colorly Xtreme Colors. "This is a quick and easy way to add rock star flair to any hairstyle without it being permanent."
Willow's "Cotton Candy Dream" look consisted of hand colored poufs of pink and green. Hamilton added hues of pastel colors using IT&LY HAIRFASHIONS Colorly Xtreme and Colorly Hair Color to the pieces, then held the shapes in place with White Sand's Stuck Up Mega Hold Hairspray.
